Colin's Star Fantasy Cut Band — Same Language, Different Voice

Alaina's ring is organic, soft, and feminine. Colin's is angular, bold, and geometric. They share a design vocabulary — and look unmistakably like a pair.

When it came time to design Colin's wedding band, the ask was clear: complementary to Alaina's ring, but not matchy-matchy. Where Alaina had leaned into the softer, more romantic side of Art Deco, Colin wanted its sharper edge — the geometry, the angularity, the architectural lines. His ring would be cut from the same cloth, just differently tailored.

The Stone: A Brett Kosnar Star Fantasy Cut Blue Sapphire

Colin wanted a flush-set stone sitting within the width of the band rather than rising above it — a square or rectangle, deep blue or teal, with presence but no protrusion. Lapidary Brett Kosnar had just the stone: a square Star fantasy cut blue sapphire, perfectly sized and colored for the band. Its deep, saturated blue sits in deliberate contrast to Alaina's pale green — the same star faceting radiating from within, a different world of color entirely.

Having a fantasy cut lapidary practically around the corner is, as we'll readily admit, an extraordinary advantage.

The Band: Art Deco, Sharpened

We sent Colin sketches and he chose to merge elements from two of them. The fan engraving from Alaina's ring appears here too — but transformed. Where hers curves softly outward, Colin's cuts deeper and sharper, the lines more pronounced, more defined. The radial fans flare out from either side of the fantasy cut sapphire like a cold sun breaking through cloud. Geometric diamond shapes accent the band on either side, the whole surface carrying the kind of detail that catches the light differently at every angle.

A straight band profile and a satin finish keep everything grounded — substantial, wearable, and built for a lifetime.

The Two Rings Together

Seen side by side, the shared DNA is clear. The same fan motif connects them. The same star cut lives at the heart of each. But one is round and milgrained and pale green, the other square-cut and angular and deep blue — soft and cool together, like two different expressions of the same feeling.

Designing Rings Together?

Creating a pair that feels connected without being identical is one of our favorite design challenges. Whether you share a stone, a motif, a metal, or just a sensibility, we can help you find the thread that ties two rings together while letting each one be entirely its own.
