How Custom Jewelry Works

- Bring your inspiration! Pinterest boards, sketches, heirloom pieces, or just your ideas.
- We’ll explore center stone preferences (natural, lab-grown, or alternative gems), metals (platinum, yellow, white, or rose gold), and settings.
- We’ll discuss your timeline and budget to guide design decisions with intention.
2. Stone Sourcing & Approval
- Stone Sourcing happens before Design and CAD rendering. We always start with the stone first because we design around it.
- You’ll choose from a curated selection of handpicked gemstones, viewed either in person or through private video consultations. If your perfect stone isn’t currently in our collection, we’ll source it especially for you through our network of renowned, ethically focused gemstone partners—a trusted circle known for their exceptional variety, quality, and artistry.
3. Design & CAD Rendering
- Our designer refines your ideas into detailed sketches.
- We narrow and tweak those ideas into a winner.
- The final sketch is converted into a 3D CAD rendering, where you'll see lifelike visualizations from all angles.
4. Crafting Your Ring & Final Presentation
- Once the design and stones are approved, our jewelers bring the vision to life.
- Your ring is cast, set, and hand-finished with heirloom-quality care.
- You’ll receive your completed piece along with:

Investment
The average cost of an alternative stone custom engagement ring typically ranges from $4,000 to $10,000, depending on the choice of stones, metal, and the intricacy of the design. We gladly accept scrap gold, platinum, or silver—including old jewelry, chains, dental crowns, and flatware—which can be refined for credit toward your custom piece. We’re also happy to evaluate and buy back old diamonds, or better yet, repurpose your heirloom stones into a new design that honors your story while giving them a fresh life.
Design to completion
That said, we’ve completed custom pieces in as little as three weeks, so don’t be discouraged if you’re on a tight timeline—though rush fees may apply. For custom engagement rings, heirloom redesigns, or intricate wedding bands, we recommend starting the process 3–4 months in advance if you have a set deadline. Depending on the complexity of your design or the rarity of your chosen stones, some projects can take up to six months to complete.
It’s always best to plan ahead so your pieces are finished well before your event. On average, the full process—from initial design to finished ring—takes about 2.5-3 months.
For long-term durability, we do not recommend using gemstones with a hardness below 7.5 on the Mohs scale in engagement or wedding bands, as these rings experience the most daily wear.
