Alaina's Pale Green Starbrite™ — One Ring to Rule Them All

Some people want a stack. Alaina wanted one ring, done perfectly.

Alaina and Colin reached out from out of state with a clear vision: a pale green sapphire in a round Starbrite™ cut, set in platinum, low profile, with engraving and detail that rewarded a close look. No wedding band — just one continuous piece of metal with a single stone commanding all the attention. As it happened, we had exactly the stone she was looking for.

The Stone: A Pale Green Sapphire Starbrite™

The Starbrite™ cut is a faceting style that sends radiating lines outward from the stone's centre in a starburst pattern — dynamic, luminous, and endlessly alive with movement. In a pale green sapphire, the effect is particularly ethereal. The stone appears illuminated from within, its soft green shifting with the light like something glowing beneath the surface.

Rounded claw prongs hold it in place, their organic curves chosen to echo the softness of the stone and the femininity of the setting rather than interrupt it.

The Ring: Vintage Soul, Modern Hand

Alaina's brief was clear about what she didn't want as much as what she did. Art Deco inspiration, yes — but soft, not rigid. Vintage in feeling, not in heaviness. Organic shapes to complement the roundness of the stone. Detail that revealed itself gradually rather than announcing itself all at once.

We developed several sketches and combined the strongest elements from a few of them. The result: engraved shoulders featuring fan-like curves and repeating diamond patterns, all bordered by fine milgrain. The same milgrain traces the edge of the center stone setting, tying the whole piece together. Small diamonds are set into the shoulders like punctuation — present but not competing.

Platinum was the natural choice — cool, durable, and the perfect backdrop for a pale green stone. Its density gives the ring a presence on the hand that white gold can't quite replicate, while its color keeps the palette clean and fresh.

The Result

The finished ring points to the past but wears entirely in the present. The engraving is intricate without feeling fussy. The stone glows. The proportions are just right for a low-profile ring that lives on the hand every day without a band beside it to share the spotlight.

One ring. One stone. Nothing superfluous.
