Brooke & Ryan's Platinum Wedding Bands — Initials, Engraving, and a Twist
Brooke and Ryan came to us last year for her parti sapphire engagement ring. With their wedding around the corner, it was time to complete the picture.
Both chose platinum — durable, beautiful, and the natural companion to Brooke's existing ring. From there, each band took on a personality of its own.
Ryan's Band: The Nyx with a Twist
Ryan loved our knife edge Nyx band but wanted, in his words, a twist. So we gave him not one, but two! The knife edge is twisted around the band, creating a subtle double-sided movement, something like a mobius strip in platinum. The effect is understated from a distance and endlessly interesting up close, the ridge shifting as the ring turns on the finger.
A satin finish keeps it grounded. Inside the band, hand engraved: a B for Brooke, and their upcoming wedding date. Private details that make a simple band anything but.
Brooke's Band: Hand Engraved, Botanical, and Built Around Her Ring
Since Brooke's engagement ring sits low on the finger, her wedding band needed to contour around it rather than sit flat beside it. At the apex of that contour — the highest point of the curve — she wanted an R for Ryan, hand engraved in flowing script, with botanical tendrils of leaves trailing outward from the letter across the band. Natural diamonds are scattered throughout, catching the light with a quiet, unforced sparkle.
A Note on Hand Engraving
Hand engraving is a precious and increasingly rare art form. As CAD technology has taken over jewelry production, fewer and fewer jewelers practice true hand engraving — and those who do are becoming harder to find. While we can use computer-aided design and then go over the lines with gravers (what we call faux hand engraving), there is simply no way for technology to replicate what a skilled hand engraver produces. The variation, the depth, the life in the lines — it cannot be programmed.
It is more expensive. It takes longer. And it is absolutely worth it — because it produces something that will last a lifetime and was made in a way that may soon be lost entirely.
Brooke wanted that. She wanted the R that signifies Ryan to be written by hand, in a craft that technology hasn't been able to replace — and we think that's a beautiful reason to choose it.
The Result
Two platinum bands, two very different personalities — one with a twist and a hidden date, one with botanical script and scattered diamonds. Together they complete a story that started with a parti sapphire and a proposal, and is now, finally, a set.
