Both are Boulder natives and professional artists. Maddie and Clyde approached the design process with a deep appreciation for symbolism, detail, balance and personal meaning. From the very beginning, it was clear this wouldn’t be just any ring—it would be a piece that reflected their shared creative language.

A Green Sapphire That Stole the Show

The center stone in any engagement ring is everything, which is why we always begin there and build a ring around it. 

Some people care most about size, or cut or shape, Maddie's number one was color! It makes sense, color is what she does for a living. She wanted deep and vivid without feeling too dark. She ultimately choose a richly green hexagon sapphire from Australia—a stone that felt earthy, vibrant, and completely unique. Australian sapphires are known for their deep, moody tones, and this one had a presence and color variation that was just right.

A Celestial Proposal, Reimagined

Clyde’s proposal was not exactly traditional—he proposed with a necklace, knowing that Maddie would want to design her own ring.

The piece carried a celestial theme, and it was important that we honor that moment by weaving those same cosmic elements into her engagement ring design. Rather than starting from scratch, we looked to one of our in-house styles for inspiration.

Customizing the Stellaris Ring

Our Stellaris Collection was designed with celestial influence—constellations, star cut settings, and a sense of quiet magic. It felt like the perfect starting point.

From there, we customized!

• We replaced the original kite-set sapphires with star-set diamonds, giving the ring a more refined, luminous feel
• We flush-set the diamonds along the top and bottom of the center stone for a cleaner, more modern silhouette
• Designed the setting to perfectly frame Maddie’s hexagon sapphire while keeping the overall profile nice and wearable

The result is a custom sapphire engagement ring that feels both grounded and ethereal—structured while still full of movement and light.
