Mixed Diamond Stone Stacker Band

Mixed Diamond Stone Stacker Band
|by Heather Ng

Shelby came to us wanting to switch out her 14k white gold wedding set to platinum. She was tired of the rhodium plating wearing off and didn't like the color of 14k white gold without the rhodium plating. 14k white gold is typically nickel and yellow gold mixed together (sometimes it can be palladium and yellow gold), due to the yellow gold it makes the mix a warm white. Most people want that icy white you get when you high polish platinum, and the only way to get that with white gold is to rhodium plate it. She wanted a metal that was durable for her busy life (two little kiddos!) and kept it's color, therefore platinum was the best choice going forward.

Her original 14k white gold setting is to the right and her new platinum setting is to the left.

On top of changing out her engagement ring setting and her half round wedding band she also wanted a third ring to stack on the other side of her engagement ring. She went with a classic (but with a twist!) mixed stone stacker that we did with some super fun shapes (baguette, pears and rounds) using natural diamonds in a high shine platinum setting.

Shelby wanted to retain as much of the original design of her engagement ring as possible but we needed to move that oval diamond up to a higher profile to be able to fit both her wedding band on one side and her mixed stone stacker on the other side without damaging the prongs or the stones of her engagement ring or the stones in the mixed stone stacker.

We really love the look of a mixed stone shape stacker band. It's got a vintage flair, and an incredible amount of sparkle, and her new stack feels classic but freshly modernized. I'd say that's a win-win-win, and in the midst of making all of these rings for Shelby she had a baby! Having little babies in the store is just the sweetest thing, it feels like little angels come to visit. Congratulations on your new ring stack and your new baby Shelby!
