Rainy's Arcadia Ring — Moody, Considered, and Just the Right Size
Eric reached out from New York City knowing two things: he wanted to propose to Rainy, and he wanted the ring to be exactly right for her.
Rainy is petite. The ring needed to make a statement without overwhelming her hand. The stone needed to have personality. And the whole thing needed to feel like her — not a generic engagement ring, but something with a little soul.
The Setting: Arcadia in 14k Yellow Gold
Eric chose our Arcadia engagement ring setting —a design featuring fine milgrain detailing and pear and marquise side stones that fan out from the center like a flower in bloom. The smaller Arcadia setting was a deliberate choice, scaled to Rainy's petite frame while still commanding attention. In 14k yellow gold, it has a warmth that suits the salt and pepper stone beautifully.
We finished the ring in satin rather than high polish — a decision worth understanding. With a detailed setting like the Arcadia, a high shine finish can actually work against you, reflecting so much light that the milgrain and fine details disappear into the glare. A satin finish lets every detail read clearly, the texture doing exactly what it was designed to do.
The Stone: A Pear Salt & Pepper Diamond
Eric considered sapphires and salt and pepper diamonds before landing on the salt and pepper — drawn in by its moodier quality and the way it behaves differently depending on the light. Indoors, the stone turns inward and dark. In natural sunlight, it opens up and comes alive. It's a stone that rewards attention, which felt right for a ring meant to be worn and noticed every day.
The Result
The finished ring is everything Eric was looking for — a statement that doesn't shout, detailed without being fussy, and scaled with real intention for the person wearing it. Rainy was thrilled. Her mother called it stunning. And Eric, ever practical, noted that the 4.5 sizing was just right to account for seasonal changes on Rainy's 4.25 finger.
"Thank you so much for all of your help. Rainy is thrilled with the ring. The size is perfect. I am very happy with the ring — it was a pleasure working with you."

Looking for a Ring with a Little Soul?
Salt and pepper diamonds are endlessly individual — no two are alike, and each one behaves differently in different light. Paired with the right setting and finish, they make for engagement rings that feel genuinely considered rather than simply chosen. If you'd like to explore what's possible, we'd love to help.
