The Artifex is Bohemi's architectural engagement ring, made for the modern romantic who loves clean lines and thoughtful symmetry. A hexagon center sits in a thick-walled bezel with a halo of diamonds around it, flanked by the subtle shimmer of channel-set white diamonds along the shank. Heather designed it with precision and purpose, and calls it wearable architecture.

This listing is the setting. The center stone is chosen separately. You pick the accent diamonds, lab grown or natural, and the metal: 14k or 18k in yellow, white or rose gold, or platinum. The design looks balanced with a symmetrical hexagon, and the stone sits just high enough that a straight sided wedding band nestles snugly underneath.

Choose the setting when you love this design and want to put your own hexagon in it. Pick a stone from the stone catalog, or reach out and Heather will start looking. With a catalog stone the build takes 4 to 6 weeks, and 6 to 8 weeks if she is sourcing the stone for you. It is designed to pair with the Artifex Wide Wedding Band or the Artifex Thin Wedding Band, and it sits alongside the rest of the engagement rings.

All Bohemi gold is cast from grain produced from reclaimed scrap by our refiner that reclaims existing jewelry, and Fairmined gold is available on request at a premium. More on where the metal comes from.

What is in this listing?

The setting: the thick-walled bezel, the halo of diamonds around it, and the channel-set white diamonds along the shank. The center stone is not included. You choose a hexagon from Bohemi's stone catalog, or Heather sources one for you.

What shape center stone does the Artifex take?

It looks balanced with a symmetrical hexagon, which is the shape the bezel and the halo were drawn around. Start in Bohemi's stone catalog, and if nothing there is right, Heather can go looking for one.

Which wedding bands stack with it?

The stone sits just high enough for a straight sided band to nestle snugly underneath, which is what makes the pair read as one sculptural set. It is designed to pair with the Artifex Wide Wedding Band or the Artifex Thin Wedding Band.

Can the halo be sapphires instead of white diamonds?

Yes. Sapphires in the halo give it a more colorful pop, and that build already exists as its own listing: see the sapphire halo version.

How long does the Artifex setting take to build?

4 to 6 weeks when your hexagon comes from Bohemi's stone catalog, and 6 to 8 weeks when Heather is sourcing the stone for you. If you have a date to hit, put it in the notes at checkout and tell us when you need it by. A shorter timeline is often possible at no extra cost, and when it is not, rush fees may apply. See the FAQ page for how rush pricing works.

Can it be resized later, and what does that do to returns?

Yes, and a resize takes about 2 weeks. One thing to settle first: once a ring has been resized it is final sale and cannot be returned. If your size is not certain, ask for a wax mold to try on before the setting goes into production and you can avoid the resize altogether.
