Heirloom Diamond & Sapphire Mixed Metal Ring

Heirloom Diamond & Sapphire Mixed Metal Ring
|by Heather Ng

Nan popped in with her grandmothers platinum ring she inherited that was chock full of diamonds- baguettes, a marquis center and lots of differing sizes of round brilliants. It was a diamond extravaganza, and super sparkly. However, Nan wanted something that suited her, that was less bling, and had a different center stone. We took out all the diamonds from her grandmothers ring and scattered the differing round brilliants into the side of a wide sterling silver shank. She chose a Tanzania deep green sapphire and we bezel set it in 14k yellow gold which gave it an excellent pop on the black rhodium plated silver band. To tamp down the shine even more we gave the ring a coarse matte finish.

Do you love wider bands but worry about whether they will be comfortable long term? Tapering them on the backside solves that dilemma!

Do you love black rings? We love the color too. If you are wanting a black ring we can plate the ring in black rhodium to give it that jet black color. However, plating is temporary. Over time it wears off, and you will have to get it replated in the future. At this time there is no precious metal that is naturally black that we can use just like gold or platinum so if you want a black ring currently your options are plating or an alternative metal like Tungsten or Cobalt. However, there are pros and cons to those metals, so do your research! We do not make custom or engagement rings from these metals due to the metals properties and the ethics behind the mining. Tungsten is difficult to resize and set stones in, and cobalt mining uses child labor, and has a horrific environmental track record. Cobalt is the metal needed for all those electric car batteries, so there is a huge demand for it and very little oversight. Stick to rhodium plating and have a clean conscience!
