Let’s talk Turquoise. The trade name “White Buffalo” is used to identify the stone coming out of Tonopah, Nevada. The legendary Otteson mining family owns the mine where the white stone grows, surrounded by black chert which creates beautiful patterns, and sometimes in rare and more expensive pieces, a spider-web matrix. The stone grows in veins, is hard and cuts like turquoise, but geologists are inconclusive about whether it is technically turquoise or not. In the industry, this stone is generally referred to as “White Buffalo”.

There are other times you will hear the term “White Buffalo Turquoise”. It is used to refer to Magnesite or Howlite, Calcite and Quartz materials. The stone in this ring is Calcite. We paired this large cab on a half round sterling band flanked on either side by flat twisted wire.  We oxidized it and brushed it back to a satin finish. This is a dramatic statement piece fit for royalty!

Size: 11

Keep in mind, when choosing a wider ring band, you will need to size up between a half to three quarters of a size from what you might be used to. The wider the band, the more you’ll need to size up.
